ABOUT
The latest BaCAA #6 received hundreds of submissions from artists below 40 and turned out to be rather conceptual-there are scarcely any paintings submitted. The declining numbers of the paintings and sculptures in the entries may take a turn on a widespread assumption, on how hard it is for conventional works to compete. Granted, the apprehension that BaCAA requires the artworks to be in its utmost quality defined by the mainstream parameter in the art world has reduced the numbers haphazardly superficial artist- who participate after a sort of happy-go-lucky fashion. The winning artworks, “Don’t Call Me Hero: Soegeng Soejono” by Vincent Rumahloine,” Tak Kenal Maka Tak Apa” by Bandu Darmawan and “His Mom Told Him to…” by Audya Amalia, tend to lean on conceptual side, with their notions and artistic explorations attempting to break boundaries: the artworks closely associated with the most recent discourses in contemporary art.
